A Beauty and the Beast retelling, with some of it’s own magic! This is the second novella in the historical fantasy fairytale retellings series by Byrd Nash. It was an absolute delight to read. I can’t wait for more in this enchanting series.

When their father loses a game of cards and trades his daughters away for a rose to a local recluse (the Beast), his daughters step in to take charge of their own fates. The oldest daughter, Lily, takes charge as the housekeeper of the Beast’s manor. The youngest, Poppy, begins reading books on magic in his library and becomes his secretary.

The middle daughter, Rose, begins working magic in his garden. She could be the key to unraveling the curse that’s been upon him, if only he can see what is real behind the fairy magic.

If you enjoy fairytales, retellings, and historical romance, than this novella is for you! An quick and enjoyable read.

About the Author:

Byrd loves creating fiction that delivers fresh stories and unexpected twists.

Whether it is a Doppleganger who was once a medieval knight now working in college administration, or a fairytale Red Riding Hood escaping a post-WWI wolf pack, her characters feel real. That Celtic goddess at the pet store? She’s someone you know. A medieval queen fleeing an abusive marriage? No matter the time period, that woman could exist today.

Described by one reviewer as “A literary glass of bourbon after a long day,” while another wrote “When I get a Byrd story, I know I’m in good hands,” Byrd gives readers a satisfying read.

With a B.A. in journalism, she worked at various newspapers as a reporter and sections editor. Her careers have included being a museum director, a horseback riding instructor, a kid’s party planner, and a manager of a veterinarian’s office.

However, she always returns to her first love: writing stories, dreaming up characters, and creating fascinating flights of fantasy.
